Sailor’s Ink Studio 743 Blue is part of the Ink Studio collection — a curated set of 100 dye?based inks created by Sailor. These inks are designed to offer a wide palette of rich color while remaining fountain-pen safe and dependable.

  In reviews, 743 is often called an “electric blue” or a “deep, vibrant blue” — a bright, saturated blue with enough depth to avoid appearing flat. 
  In the Fountain Pen Pharmacist review, 743’s swabs show a color that resembles a generic blue ballpoint pen in writing, though richer in pigmentation.

  In Fountain Pen Pharmacist’s review, 743 demonstrates wet and consistent flow during writing tests. 
  The same review describes moderate drying time, no shading, and low sheen on Tomoe River 52?gsm paper. 

• Swatch & Chromatography Behavior
  In swatch tests by Nick Stewart (Sailor Ink Studio Swatch Tests, Part 04 / “The Blues Part 02”), 743 is shown to blend easily with water, “feathers out turquoise with hints of pink at the edges,” and shows a slight sheen in some swatch areas. 
  The same swatch set describes dramatic chromatography (i.e. dye bleeding into adjacent tones) and edge effects of turquoise / pink from 743. 

  The Mountain of Ink review of Ink Studio Set #9, which includes 743 among a family of blues, gives more performance data:

  • Dry time: ~30 seconds on good paper

  • Feathering: low on fountain?friendly paper, some feathering in flex nibs

  • Show-through: medium

  • Bleeding: low (though copy / low-quality paper sees more bleed)

  • Other properties: 743, 843, and 943 had medium sheen and medium shading in that test set 

• Sheen & Shading
  While Fountain Pen Pharmacist observed low sheen and no shading in their tests, other sources like Goldspot list medium purple sheen and medium shading as part of 743’s character. 
  The discrepancy suggests that the sheen and shading may depend heavily on the paper, ink saturation, nib size, and lighting.
