Poetic Inspiration & Context

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Manyo ink line, Sailor released a special limited edition set called Manyo Ink in Love, in which each ink is tied to a waka (classical Japanese poem) about unrequited love, and named after a plant or flower appearing in the Many?sh? poetry anthology. 

Himeyuri (???, “Star Lily”) is the floral muse for this edition. Sailor cites the poem:

“Like the star lily blooming in the thicket of a summer field, unknown to anyone, my love remains a painful and poignant secret.” 

This emotional metaphor of hidden beauty and secret affection is expressed in the ink’s hue and behavior.
